Arts Award

Arts Award supports arts education in Ickburgh School. Our Year 9 pupils will enter this qualification. Arts Award connects young people with the arts – as the audience or visitor, behind the scenes, learning from creative professionals, or researching the work of artists and arts organisations. With five different levels Discover, Explore, Bronze, Silver and Gold– Arts Award can support anyone 25 and under to connect with and participate in the arts.

Year 9 pupils of 2023-2024 academic year have been working at Discovery, Explore and Bronze Level. They have participated in Visual Arts, Music, Dance, Drama, Digital Art, Circus Arts. We visited art galleries and museums like the Tate Modern, Whitechapel Gallery, The Barbican, V&A. We also had workshops at Alexander Whitley Digital Dance Company. We have had workshops in school form the Saatchi Gallery, Mouth that Roars, Chicken Shed, Museum of London, National Centre for Circus Arts, WAC Arts, classical music concerts. We have taken part in 'I am Festival' and Hackney Carnival.

Arts Award Discover is the start of the Arts Award adventure. It takes our pupils on an artistic journey as they explore the arts all around them, investigate different art forms, research an artist, and then share their discoveries with others.

Arts Award Explore encourages our pupils to experience different art forms and artists and develop their own creativity. Along the way they record what they've achieved and enjoyed and share it with others.

Bronze Arts Award develops young people’s artistic abilities alongside their research and communication skills. This level involves them in the arts as creators and audience members and encourages them to take their first steps towards leadership by sharing their learning with others.

Arts Award offers exciting opportunities and progression routes for all students. Four of the five levels are on the Regulated Qualifications Framework, so participants gain a recognised arts qualification. In addition, UCAS points are attached to the highest level.
